Unity School Celebrates Ayyam-i-Ha with Kippy!

Ayyam-i-Ha was celebrated early this year for Unity School. It was held at the Damansara Jaya Community Centre on the afternoon of 10th Feb.

Local celebrity, Kippy the Hippo, was invited to grace this occassion with another one of his fantastic performances. Other activities included a sing-a-long, gift exchange, and refreshments after.

Unity School was happy to see some new faces and hopes to invite these contacts to our children’s classes in the near future.

Ayyam-i-Ha is the perfect time to be generous and magnanimous.

As part of our module on arts and crafts in Learning About Excellence, we decided to come together and raise money for the Johor flood victims while at once getting our creative glands pumping!

These gorgeous photo frames can be yours for a minimum donation of RM6 (ed: what a bargain!). All profits will be donated to the victims of the recent floods in Johor.

Please contact anyone of us (Meng Kit, Avinash, Aleysha, Aleyna, Anisa, Sofia, Ee Lyn) for either a colourful photo frame or for more detailed information about the disaster in Johor. Happy Ayyam-i-Ha!

celebrating with new fam on the block

Both Seri Setia and Damansara teams have combined to celebrate the Ayyam-i-Ha on Sunday morning 25th Feb at Michelle and Foroutan Amini’s beautiful home in Tropicana. It was a fun-filled gathering with devotions and gift exchange, followed with a sumptuous breakfast – of course. Some friends gathered around as Michelle shared some of her experiences and how she became Baha’i.
Their children – Syrous, Zhaleh and Azita are now part of our community too. Let us welcome them. :)

It’s Ayyam-i-Ha!

The children classes of BSD jointly celebrated Ayyam-i-Ha amongst the children on 24/2/07 together with some parents. The older group class presented a short story skit on contentment and cooperation, before the others joined in for some virtues matching game, puzzle solving and some games. Refreshments and opportunity to further establish relationship with the parents followed. The Writings memorised and presented by the children caught the attention of the parents attending.

An great fun filled afternoon despite the heavy thunderstorm that hit BSD! Enjoy some selected pictures for viewing.

P/S: Due to the CNY festivities, some of the children and parents could not make it.

Report on 3rd Cycle Forum

At the recently held forum, friends from all teams came forward to share the successes and challenges faced during the just completed cycle.

One by one came forward to share the triumphs of their teams. Some had succeeded in expanding their avenues of reaching out to the community around them through creative service projects and utilization of community social groups. Others were beginning to see the fruits of their efforts in children’s classes as parents of these children were beginning to step forward to help with the education of their own children by enrolling in Reflection on the Life of the Spirit. In other places, friends were successful in welcoming more of their friends to join Children’s Classes and even began new Junior Youth classes. Each story shared increased the excitement and joy of the friends gathered.

But as with all successes, there is always a challenge. And there was one particular challenge which all present agreed was faced by all teams, and that was the challenge of encouraging every individual in the team to be involved in all activities.

So with hopes and aims for the next cycle high, friends at the forum have taken on as a challenge, to have all team members actively participating in the next cycle.

The PJ Old Town Youth & Young Adults Fireside

On the 29th of December, the PJOT Baha’i youths and young adults organized a barbeque to widen the circle of friends and to top up the list of events organized in 2006. The one thing we from Old Town can be really proud of is our food! The uncovered courtyard in the centre proved to be useful during barbeques as a ventilation device. Smoke did not choke the centre.

5 junior youths from Ipoh who just attended the Holiday College in Balakong were present. Mr. Doraisamy, briefly introduced the Faith to 3 friends. Then, during the barbeque itself, we chatted with the enquirers about the Faith. A few other guests also came later on. One of them took back the book, “Baha’u’llah”.

Judging by the capacity of the centre, the crowd was just nice, it was neither too crowded nor too quiet (around 40 people). Looking at the big picture, I think it is a wonderful event to end the year with.

ps ed. sorry it took so long to post this. always glad to hear from old town, keep it up! :D

The Incident of The Parking Lot at Toyogo… Part #3

I almost went numb because this guy was so Baha’i in the way he understood the purpose of life and the spiritual journey! Do you know what he called Reflections (Ruhi Bk1)? He called it “Light”.

He was explaining to his wife and us that so many sincere people he knew who belonged to other religions, lived according to the teachings and looked for the “lights of guidance” like the Ruhi Book but they are robbed of their freedom to share it at their places of worship. At this point, I was thinking to myself Holy mother of God!!! What on earth is going on???????

What happened next really stunned me.

It was almost time for them to leave and I wanted to maximise the spiritual energy surrounding us. I requested them to honor us by saying a prayer for all of our parents as I explained the importance of remembering one’s parents.

Thank God, I went to the book store 2 weeks ago and stocked up on new prayer books. After giving them each prayer books as gifts, I chose the prayer for parents and requested Daniel to read it. My heart just about leapt when I saw and listened to him say the prayer. He did not read the prayer but he was saying the prayer. He was truly conversing with God, completely immersed. I tell you, he picked up that book and he just bridged the spiritual realm.

The best way to explain it was, imagine someone enjoying and cherishing every bite of a mouth watering milk chocolate. His body language and the way his head swayed when he wanted to emphasize a word in the prayer, They absolutely loved the famous Spiritual Growth prayer and he was just cherishing every word when the wife read the quote “Armed with the power of Thy Name, nothing can ever hurt me”

My God, it was magical…

The Incident of The Parking Lot at Toyogo… Part #2

Full Moon

He called! I did not expect to hear from him but he called!

We invited them over for Sunday tea at 5pm and they agreed to come. I knew something was about to happen when Gardener Giam read the teaching prayer earlier this morning.

5pm sharp they pull in to our driveway with a bag of apples. We welcomed them
in and it was like meeting old friends! While Honey was in the kitchen prepping up the goodies (a tasty carob cake with tea and mandarin oranges), I quickly asked them how they had met. They too asked Honey and I the same question and we were able to share with them how we met on a Baha’i channel.

As soon as he heard Baha’i, he lit up like a full moon! He said that he knew Baha’is in Nigeria and he was so impressed by the teachings but never really got the chance to learn more because he lived so far away from the Baha’is. God is our witness when I tell you that Baha’u'llah must have hand-picked this guy to teach his wife about the Baha’i Faith. We spoke on so many topics and as soon as we adjourned to the dinner table, Honey and I just sat back and watched the handowork of God set in motion. It was as though Honey and I were the excuse he was waiting for to teach his wife about the purpose of life, spirituality and …. BAM!!!!!!!!! The Soul.

Although Honey and I had our mouths close, we were virtually screaming inside. As soon as we introduced and invited them for Reflections, he started ‘tutoring’ his wife!
